Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Contemporary Fashion Design and Philosophy and Ethics (CF35)
Liverpool Hope University - Creative Campus
What you will study
Contemporary Fashion is a dynamic practice-based course that explores a breadth of current themes and issues from inclusivity to adaptable fashion. Centered around the exciting possibilities of adorning the body and exploring materials, students will learn about the fundamentals of designing, making and understanding the role that fashion plays in wider society. The course will encourage individuality, collaborative working and support diverse career trajectories.
Students will be taught by established practitioners and have access to a vast range of equipment, workshops and studios. They will be immersed in a professional environment that enables rich interdisciplinary approaches at undergraduate level. This includes working with live briefs and competitions, as well as engaging with established national and international contacts.
As a Combined Honours Degree, this program offers an exciting opportunity to combine students' fashion practice with other subjects, which will influence their individual approach to fashion and can be tailored to individual interests.
Philosophy and Ethics explores the big questions of life and morality. It challenges students to examine their assumptions, opinions and worldview.
Through close attention to the primary texts of philosophers such as Plato, Aquinas, Descartes, Hume, Kant and Nietzsche, Liverpool Hope University's Philosophy and Ethics degree will help students learn to analyse and evaluate arguments, and to compose and communicate their own ideas in a reasoned way. They will have a grounding in the foundational questions of philosophy. As students progress, they will look in depth at philosophy of religion, political philosophy, applied ethics and issues of human personhood, artificial intelligence and animality.
The degree is taught by a core team of critical academics who are passionate about teaching and are internationally recognised researchers and writers. This degree will equip students with the intellectual skills and perspectives needed to face the ethical and ideological challenges of the contemporary world.
