What you will study

With the advances of mobile technologies such as chat-bots, wearable technologies, Internet of Medical Things and the continuous boost in smartphone penetration, digital health helps to improve the healthcare delivery by making it more personalized and pervasive and by providing more predictive and preventive cares to its users. The aim of this interdisciplinary MSc Digital Health is to build a digital health workforce to bridge the knowledge gap between healthcare and computing and address today’s and tomorrow’s design challenges in developing digital health solutions.

BU wants to develop critically informed, agile and resourceful graduates, who:

• have a critical understanding of advanced theoretical knowledge, methods and concepts of relevant health digital health technologies required for supporting healthcare and social care services and products; • have specialized technical knowledge and practical skills to take a professional approach to the planning, design and management of digital health products to address real-world healthcare and social care problems; • have desired transferable and professional skills to widen their employment prospects through relevant digital health practices; • have advanced research skills to carry out research to develop new/improved digital health solutions using a broad range of methods, tools and technologies as effective independent researchers and/or consultants in their chosen specialized areas; • are prepared to adapt to future changes in digital health in the healthcare and social care context via a comprehensive understanding of fundamental theories and current practices

If their first degree is within computing and healthcare related disciplines this course will give students the required knowledge and skills to become a visionary digital health technologist, and will provide students with a potential ‘fast-track’ into the healthcare and social care profession. This course is distinctive in producing graduates who are able to understand the healthcare and social care perspective and create a strategic view of digital health product development, and who can also manage and lead the development of such products and services.
