Bachelor of Laws - Politics and International Relations (LLB) (ML14)
Cardiff University - Cathays Park
What you will study
The Law with Politics and International Relations (LLB) programme is designed to develop students’ knowledge and understanding of how legal systems operate within an evolving political and international context, and how law is shaped by this often volatile environment. Law is a discipline that influences nearly every aspect of daily life, from routine transactions to workplace rights and beyond. It is also increasingly relevant in addressing contemporary issues at local, national, and global levels. Topics such as political protest and human rights, sustainable development, trade and transport, and the regulation of artificial intelligence and social media all illustrate the intersection of law and politics. Similarly, matters including money laundering, terrorism financing, end-of-life ethics, family breakdown, housing access, and debt management demonstrate the legal and political dimensions of modern societal challenges. Studying law alongside politics and international relations enables students to gain a deeper understanding of these issues through the analysis of governmental systems, key political concepts such as freedom, democracy, and justice, and the complex relationships between states and non-state actors in the global arena. The programme equips students with the skills to locate, interpret, and apply the law of England and Wales, while also engaging with the broader theoretical foundations of legal systems. Students will examine the functioning of parliaments, governments, and international organisations, and critically evaluate concepts such as power, legitimacy, accountability, conflict, and human rights. The curriculum offers a diverse range of modules, providing perspectives on law and politics in Wales, the wider UK, Europe, and internationally
