Overview

A student’s journey with Blyth Academy culminates in the University Preparation Program for Grades 11 and 12. Here, preparing for post-secondary education is the primary focus, with increased focus on developing opinions, interpreting information, independent learning, and active participation in a small-group setting. Experienced guidance counsellors work weekly with each student to prepare them for their first year of University and beyond, with advice and counselling given during the application and scholarship selection process. Academic, personal, and vocational goals are a key area of focus, as the guidance counsellor assists in honing the students’ abilities and skills into potential post-secondary options. As the four-term, two course approach of Grade 11 and 12 mirrors the academic semester structure of post-secondary education, students are prepared to manage their timetable, use their self-directed study skills, and benefit from the familiar “round-table” tutorial system. At Blyth Academy, students are taught to advocate for themselves, nurture a strong instructor-student relationship, and be active members of their school.

In grade 12, students explore the arts, Canadian and world studies, classical studies, computer studies, international languages, health and physical education, interdisciplinary studies, mathematics, native languages, native studies, the sciences (biology, chemistry, earth and space science, environmental science, and physics), social sciences and humanities, and technological education. In partnership with Conacher Athletics, an elite training company, Blyth offers sports programs for Grades 5 to 12, including an Advanced Hockey Program, the Prep Hockey team, and custom training options for other sports. All under the supervision of our experienced trainers and coaches. Blyth Academy Burlington's Hockey programs are hyper-personalized programs designed to help students engage in experiential learning and develop their skills and interests. Blyth student-athletes receive top-quality training and guidance to prepare for success in future athletic endeavors, while also learning the value of hard work and commitment.
