What you will study
The world’s economy is becoming increasingly global and individuals who understand the international context of business and finance are in high demand. By studying international business and finance, students will be able to consider how these disciplines are affected by globalization and how businesses, markets, people and information interconnect across borders.
Bachelor of Science - International Business and Finance is taught at Essex Business School where their finance courses have 91% student satisfaction; they are ranked 20th nationally for overall student satisfaction in finance. Instructors use real-world case studies to apply theory to business practice and develop students' capacity to analyse statistics and make sound business decisions. Ethical business underpins all of the teaching, so students will graduate with an understanding of their responsibility to their investors, their staff and the wider world.
The programs first year ensures students develop a solid foundation in accounting and finance for business, the business life-cycle and how multi-nationals manage their core business functions, such as marketing and HR. Students also benefit from additional training in numerical skills, to build their confidence in handling financial data sets. In the final year, students have the opportunity to put their knowledge into practice by completing an in depth, independent research project or dissertation. This gives students the chance to further develop vital employability skills in areas of research, project management and critical thinking.
The four-year version of BSc International Business and Finance enables students to study abroad during their third year. In all other areas, this version of the course remains identical to the standard three-year variant. Students can study abroad with one of University of Essex' exchange partners in the United States, Europe, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Latin America, the Middle East, Hong Kong and Japan. In doing so, students experience other cultures and languages, meet new people, and gain intercultural skills that are sought-after by employers.
The BSc International Business and Finance curriculum taught at University of Essex embeds transferable employment skills in analysis, critical thinking, presentation and communication across all modules.
