Master of Arts - Interactive Experience Design

The MA Interactive Experience Design at Middlesex University equips students to create and critique immersive, interactive worlds that integrate storytelling, design, and technology. Through taught sessions and embedded, credit-bearing work experience modules, the program explores how data, narrative, and real-time engines combine to shape user experiences across games, XR, and installation design. Practice-based learning, ethical innovation, and employability are embedded throughout the programme.

The program develops expertise in designing immersive, interactive worlds that blend storytelling, play, and technology. Students learn to prototype experiences using real-time engines and emerging tools, from XR to AI-driven systems, while cultivating ethical, sustainable, and inclusive approaches to interactive design practice. Based in London, a global hub for creative technology, games, and media innovation, students also engage with the creative industries and local community through partnerships with Screen London Barnet.

The course is delivered in MDX Studios’ state-of-the-art facilities, including games labs with high-end NVIDIA hardware and industry-standard software such as Unreal Engine. The Motion Capture studio supports industry-level VFX and virtual production, while the Kit Hub provides professional cameras, sound recording equipment, and VR headsets. Additional facilities include studios for film, animation, and sound recording, as well as suites for editing and color grading, with AVID Media Composer and Pro Tools certification.

MA programmes feature one- and two-year options with embedded, credit-bearing work placements on live industry projects.
