Overview

GCC’s two-year Nursing program prepares students to pass the national R.N. licensing examination, and is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). This program combines nursing theory with supervised real-world clinical experience on the site of regional health service providers. Unique to associate degree programs in WNY, the last semester of GCC’s Nursing program includes a four week capstone/internship experience with an RN in a health care setting throughout the Western NY area. The specialized knowledge and hours of practical experience students will gain through GCC’s Nursing program will open doors to all kinds of practice settings. Students will be free to pursue the rewards of helping people in a wide range of possible job settings. Students can also join the Nurse’s Club, which focuses on promoting leadership in Nursing. Members are also involved in the community by providing health information and making charitable contributions to health related organizations. Upon completion of the GCC Associate Degree Program, the graduate will: • Patient Centered Care - Provide compassionate, coordinated, comprehensive care by partnering with the patient/family/community to meet individualized health care needs and identified outcomes. • Safe Practice Environment - Adhere to legal, ethical and regulatory standards in conjunction with current nursing research and risk management strategies to provide and maintain an environment of safety. • Collaboration - Collaborate with the patient/family/community and other members of the healthcare team in planning, decision making and problem solving in order to promote optimal health and move toward the achievement of mutually agreed upon outcomes. • Healthcare Informatics - Utilize available technology and other informational resources to ensure effective communication, promote patient safety and advance patient and organizational outcomes. • Management of Care - Integrate organization, delegation and prioritization to promote the attainment of individual and organizational outcomes.
