What you will study

The BA (Hons) Business Accounting and Finance with Foundation Year provides a strong pathway into contemporary business and finance careers by combining accounting and finance expertise with knowledge of leadership, strategy and governance. Students benefit from hands-on experience in the Financial Markets Lab, using the same information and technology relied on by financial professionals worldwide, and from working on real organisational projects that develop strong problem-solving skills. Teaching is delivered by experts who are shaping current thinking in business and finance.

The course offers a robust grounding in financial and management accounting alongside business strategy and organisational leadership, creating a versatile skill set suited to rapid career progression across global business environments. It also supports progression towards professional accountancy qualifications with leading bodies such as the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW). Following successful completion of the BA (Hons) Business Accounting and Finance, graduates are eligible to apply for all 11 of the maximum exemptions offered by CIMA, along with additional exemptions from ACCA and ICAEW.

Throughout the degree, students can register with CIMA to access a range of professional benefits, further supporting career development. Practical learning is enhanced through hands-on use of professional data and information services, including Bloomberg and specialist accounting software.

The integrated Foundation Year forms part of a four-year study programme and is designed to strengthen academic skills, subject knowledge and confidence, with extensive support from expert staff. This year provides a valuable preparation for progression to the honours degree and is particularly beneficial for those planning a career change or seeking a stronger grounding in new subject areas before advancing to undergraduate study.
