What you will study
From biology to pharmacology, the BSc (Hons) Pharmaceutical Sciences (Extended) degree gives learners a broad knowledge of the subject. This course includes an extra year to prepare students for degree-level study. The foundation year will introduce them to the subject that'll develop their academic writing and computing skills. Students will explore areas such as biochemistry, biology, physiology, pharmacology, and drug design and delivery. A project and laboratory work will give them opportunities to get hands-on experience. Graduate careers include roles in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries, research and development, food industries, quality control, manufacturing, teaching, forensic science, environmental pollution and health and safety. The course is a stepping stone to qualified person status with the Royal Pharmaceutical Society. Students can also apply for membership of the Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Students go to a range of companies and organizations of varying sizes for their placements, including large multi-national firms, government agencies, the NHS and small to medium sized companies engaged in research, analytical services and manufacturing.
