Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Event Management
University of Derby - Derby
What you will study
The BA (Hons) Event Management at Derby is designed to develop the practical skills needed to stage events alongside the management, leadership, and entrepreneurial capabilities required to succeed in the rapidly evolving events industry.
The course explores how events, tourism, and hospitality intersect to form the wider “visitor economy,” with students working collaboratively alongside peers from tourism and hospitality disciplines to broaden professional perspectives and future career opportunities. Opportunities are available to study abroad for a semester during the second year of the programme. All modules align with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, encouraging students to consider the social and environmental impacts of events alongside financial outcomes. The degree provides strong management and operational foundations to support success in the 2020s and beyond.
In addition to specialist event management studies, the programme incorporates key topics including business management, entrepreneurship, sustainability, creativity, and design thinking, developing adaptable, innovative graduates who are confident in challenging conventional approaches and leading positive change. Core business disciplines such as finance, marketing, and human resources are integrated throughout the curriculum rather than taught as standalone modules, ensuring learning takes place at points of direct relevance. Financial knowledge is developed through business planning activities, while leadership and HR capabilities are strengthened through study of organisational change and transformation processes.
