What you will study
The MSc Accounting and Finance at Derby offers a challenging and intellectually stimulating learning experience, preparing graduates for ACCA professional level examinations alongside a highly respected master’s qualification. The programme develops financial techniques and knowledge through a combination of technical and strategic learning, while enhancing employability with key skills in critical thinking, communication, teamwork, leadership, and management. Delivered in an ACCA- and CIMA-accredited study centre, the course draws on the expertise of professionally qualified staff with both industry and academic experience. Opportunities for short- to medium-term finance internships provide relevant work experience alongside master’s-level study. Completion of the course allows graduates to apply for exemptions from professional accounting bodies such as ACCA, CIMA, ICAEW, CPA Australia, and AIA, equipping them to be operationally and strategically effective in senior finance roles across sectors globally.
The programme combines practical skills development in core areas of finance and accounting with a strong theoretical framework and advanced research and analytical abilities. A dual learning approach enables graduates to progress towards ACCA professional level papers while completing the master’s qualification, supported by comprehensive guidance from personal tutors. Graduates are prepared to advance their careers in increasingly complex and global business environments.
Academic content is closely linked to real-world business scenarios through consultancy projects and engagement with employers and leading professionals. Guest lectures, professional mentoring, contributions to assessments, and live case studies provide practical insight and current industry knowledge. Students also have access to a broad range of finance-related internships, both paid and voluntary, with opportunities including contributions to local community organisations such as Derby Museum and the Citizens Advice and Law Centre.
