Integrated Foundation - Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Computer Games Modelling and Animation

The BA (Hons) Computer Games Modelling and Animation with Foundation Year at Derby equips students with the skills and knowledge required for a range of specialised 3D art roles within the rapidly growing computer games industry. The programme provides training in key industry tools, including Maya, Photoshop, Substance, Unreal Engine 4, and ZBrush, and offers access to facilities designed for games development, such as the XR (cross-reality) lab with specialist equipment.

The course includes an optional industrial placement year, providing valuable professional experience and enhancing employability. In the final year, students collaborate on a game as part of the Game Development module, applying both technical and creative skills.

The foundation year offers a strong introduction to the subject, enabling students to strengthen their skills, knowledge, and confidence before advancing to the honours degree. Learning is delivered through a combination of lectures, tutorials, and practical sessions across three modules per semester, with the placement year taking place between stages two and three of the programme. This structure prepares students for dynamic careers in the computer games industry.
