The BA English Language, Literature, and Creative Writing at the University of Chester offers a flexible and exciting opportunity for students eager to explore the diverse fields of English without committing to a single discipline from the outset. In the first year, students will build a solid base by studying the structure of the English language—including local accents and dialects of Chester—as well as engaging with literary works connected to the city’s rich heritage. Creative writing will also be a key element, enabling students to craft their own narratives inspired by Chester’s history.

As students progress into years two and three, they will undertake a core module each year—Advances in English in Year Two, which examines the evolution of the language from Old English to the present, exploring how language, society, and culture influence each other; and Beyond the Page in Year Three, which integrates theory with practical application, preparing students for the professional world. Throughout these years, students will select optional modules from across the three disciplines, tailoring their degree to align with their interests and career aspirations.
