University of Essex - Colchester Campus
What you will study
This broad business management course gives students the chance to learn two modern languages of their choice while they study management at one of the UK’s best and most culturally-diverse business schools. Speaking multiple languages can widen students’ employability opportunities and enrich their travel experiences.
Through their business management and language studies degree students will gain an intensive, comprehensive language education, covering vocabulary, grammar, reading, writing and speaking. Students can study one of their languages to mastery level and develop their practical language skills through classes taught by native speakers.
Students’ management modules take a global, intercultural and ethical perspective. Essex Business School is home to staff and students from all over the world, providing an international education for today’s globalized world. Students’ modern language studies are delivered by the Department of Language and Linguistics which is a leading department in language studies.
The School champions responsible management and ethical business practices; students join a school not just committed to excellence in business education and social science research, but an intellectual community working to make business better. They don't just prepare students for a successful career; they'll help students shape the kind of world they want to live in.
Study areas include:
• international business environment • leadership in organisations • organisational behavior • business strategy • human resource management
The first year focuses on the business management area of the degree and introduces students to the main functional areas of business, including accounting and marketing. This gives them flexibility to work in any area of business management after graduation. Students will also start their language studies with their two language options.
The second year allows to take a deeper dive into business management theory and practice while also encouraging students to develop their skills as a modern languages practitioner. Students will also deepen their language studies and improve their spoken, written and reading proficiency.
In the final year, students have the opportunity to put their knowledge into practice by completing an in-depth, independent research project or dissertation. This gives them the chance to further develop vital employability skills in areas of research, time management and critical thinking. Students’ language skills will now be reaching advanced and proficiency skill levels.
