The BEng (Hons) Electrical and Electronic Engineering with Foundation Year programme offers a career-focused pathway at the forefront of future technologies, preparing graduates for one of the UK’s most in-demand professions. It equips students for careers in diverse areas such as avionics, medical electronics, automotive electrical and electronic systems, electrical power generation, the rail industry, and music and entertainment.
The foundation year provides exposure to all aspects of engineering, building multi-disciplinary skills and knowledge sought by employers. In the second year, students have the option to transfer to BEng (Hons) Motorsport Engineering or BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering, or continue on the Electrical and Electronic Engineering pathway. An optional placement year is available to provide professional experience and practical insights.
The programme is delivered in an inspirational learning environment at the Markeaton Street site, home to a fully equipped STEM Centre with laboratories, workshops, and the latest technology. Students are taught by an expert academic team with extensive experience across branches of electrical and electronic engineering, including influential research publications and textbooks. The course is also available part-time for direct entry to the final year. The programme emphasises the fundamental and evolving nature of electricity, highlighting its role in domestic life, industry, and technological innovation, all of which form the basis of this distinctive engineering degree.
