The BSc (Hons) Forensic Science with Criminology programme combines advanced forensic science skills with in-depth criminological knowledge, offering a broad-based and inspiring course of study. Students gain practical insights into professional practice by learning alongside forensic scientists, fingerprint experts, police officers, lawyers, and judges. The programme provides hands-on experience in authentic environments, including high-specification forensic laboratories, crime scene vehicles, courtrooms, and the Forensic Training Facility. Work-based learning opportunities are available through placements in forensic imaging units, footwear units, or forensic analytical service laboratories in partnership with the East Midlands Scientific Operations Unit (EMSOU).
Forensic Science with Criminology at Derby integrates forensic science expertise with a strong understanding of criminology, addressing questions about the causes of criminal behaviour and the influence of nature and nurture. Legal aspects of forensic science, including the court process and the role of expert testimony, are also covered.
