Master of Arts (Honours) - Creative Writing

University of Winchester (UoW)

What you will study

Throughout the course, students will create new work and discuss it in a supportive group of peers alongside their tutor as they redraft and refine. The structure of the programme enables students to experiment from week to week, hone their craft and develop complete short stories as well as engage with the demands of longer-form prose.

In the first semester students will take modules in contemporary fiction and literary non-fiction, and also develop a project that addresses ways in which writers engage with community audiences. The second semester focuses on genre fiction and preparation for an Independent Study project, which is a substantial creative submission of 20-25,000 words written over the summer months. This could be the first part of a novel, a collection of short fiction, the opening to a work of literary non-fiction or a hybrid submission, completed with tutor support.
