What you will study

The ability to produce high quality video content is now in greater demand than ever before and that means qualified producers and editors are finding rewarding careers in this creative industry. Through this program, students will learn to shoot and edit video projects at a professional level for storytelling that stands out. Their videos and productions can be used to share information and news stories, establish a personal or corporate brand, or tell an important story by producing their own short documentary. This program is specially designed to give students the fundamentals of video design, production, and editing in a flexible format that meets their needs and career goals. Through these professionally-taught courses, students will gain job-relevant skills with today’s techniques and technology that are valuable for anyone engaged in media storytelling. Upon completion of this program, students will be able to: • Competently operate a digital camera • Select and operate appropriate audio, video, and lighting kits • Produce digital video using non-linear video and other related production systems • Storyboard a digital project and create a plan for production • Demonstrate proficiency with industry standard software used for digital editing • Source appropriate settings and resources for producing a digital video • Demonstrate proficiency with industry standard programs used for creating images and visual effects • Accurately articulate client’s expectations in planning a digital video production • Demonstrate professional, ethical behaviour as a digital video producer

By earning their associate certificate, students will be honing their production and editing skills to prepare for freelance video work and entry-level positions such as video assistants and coordinators. They’ll also be able to apply their video and storytelling skills in a variety of other positions such as business owner, marketing coordinator, or brand manager to enhance their own small business, personal project, or current job. Please note: Flexible Credential programs are part-time however enrollment in these programs does not affect PGWP eligibility.
