Program Description Foundation Studies Program (Fast Track) - Life Science (X0G:4) (0100809):

The Foundation Studies program is a direct academic pathway to first-year undergraduate degree study, or an equivalent. The program acts as a bridging course for international students who wish to study a university undergraduate degree course but who don’t yet meet academic requirements and/or have the English language skills for tertiary study.

To successfully complete the program, students must achieve a 50% pass in all units, including English.

Upon successful completion of the course, graduates can enter one of the University of Tasmania’s undergraduate degree courses.

Bachelor of Information and Communication Technology and Bachelor of Science - Plant Science (93H):

The double degree allows students to deepen their knowledge and expertise within two separate study areas. This means students can choose from University of Tasmania’s range of exciting, diverse courses and they can embark on a journey as unique as they are.

The University of Tasmania’s science degree provides students with a foundation of core skills in science, analysis, and rational thinking. They have options to focus their studies in one or more scientific disciplines and learn the methods to apply their skills and knowledge to the practical needs of industry, business, and government in both scientific and non-scientific roles.

The BICT is a specialist degree with both a theoretical and practical focus. It develops technological understanding and skills that are in high demand world-wide, plus builds project management and other business soft-skills that make students an ICT professional.

The plant science major is for students with an interest in the biology of plants, including their structure, functional biology, genetics and distribution.

Students get an opportunity to learn: • Plants of Tasmania provides a comprehensive introduction to the diversity of plants found in Tasmania. In online delivery, University of Tasmania examine the major natural vegetation communities in Tasmania, and critically appraise current understanding of past and present processes that have shaped these communities, as well as their conservation and scientific significance. • Functional Plant Biology is designed to provide students with a state-of-the-art knowledge of plant function, focusing on central concepts of plant responses to drought stress, nutrient availability and light environment. These plant behavioural characteristics are essential for understanding the way plants adapt to their environment whether under natural or agricultural conditions. • Students also get an opportunity to learn about Biology of Plants, Cell Biology, Genetics and Evolution, Plants in Action, Genetics and Evolution, Applied Genetics and Biotechnology and Scientific Methods in Biology.
