Bachelor of Arts - Honours Arts - Medieval Studies (Co-op)
University of Waterloo
What you will study
Program Description Students who have a wide variety of interests, Honours Arts gives them the freedom to explore it.
In the University of Waterloo's largest and most flexible first-year program, students will use their first two terms to test the waters. Sample courses from the humanities, social sciences, fine and performing arts, and languages and cultures. Students can discover subjects they weren’t exposed to in high school, or delve deeper into their favourite subject at the university level.
Honours Arts will give students the critical thinking skills to analyze issues, make persuasive arguments, write well, and speak with conviction — skills that will serve them well along any career path.
In Canada’s longest-standing Medieval Studies program, students will explore the ideas and events of Europe and the Near East from the fall of the Roman Empire to the beginning of the modern era in 1500 CE.
When students study medieval history, art, philosophy, legal systems, and politics, they were not just living in the past. This is a field that offers valuable insights into European politics, modern gender norms, the rise and fall of superpowers, the connections between Islam and Christianity, and more, and students who choose the co-op stream, they will have the opportunity to implement that into their work early.
Students will have lots of opportunity to connect with other students, thanks to small classes and the regular social and academic events organized by the Classical and Medieval Students Society.
