Overview

Engage in creative and critical thinking, while applying calculus, statistics and probability. CWU helps prepare students for one of the top-ranked jobs in America! An actuary uses specialized mathematical skills from probability and statistics to define, analyze, and solve financial and social problems. Actuaries create and manage insurance programs that reduce the adverse financial impact of both expected and unexpected things that happen to people, such as illnesses, accidents, and death. In addition, actuaries design pension programs, making sure there are sufficient resources to pay retirement and death benefits while also charging participants in the insurance or retirement plan a fair price. The Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science listed below is designed to prepare a student in both the mathematics and business areas necessary for success in the rigorous but rewarding actuarial profession. The Program

• Ranked as an advanced undergraduate program by the Society of Actuaries • Advanced actuarial courses are taught by four fulltime tenure-track faculty members with PhDs. Two of these faculty members are Associates of the Society of Actuaries, making us the only program in Washington/Oregon/Idaho with two credentialed actuaries on the faculty. • Central's Actuarial Science Program is the only major program offered in the State of Washington and one of very few on the US West Coast.
