Double Degree - Bachelor of Science (Honours) - Biotechnology - Biochemistry & Bachelor of Applied Science - Chemical Engineering (OSY) (Optional Co-op) (French Immersion)
University of Ottawa
What you will study
This double degree program combines a Bachelor of Science with the Bachelor of Applied Science in Chemical Engineering.
Biochemistry is the chemistry of life. It provides the foundation for understanding all biological processes as well as the molecular basis and treatment of human disease.
The Biochemistry program provides students with the education they need to play a leading role in new and exciting areas of medical research. They will be exposed to cutting-edge research and knowledge.
The program prepares students for graduate studies and for an academic or research career in the medical sciences. Biochemistry provides an excellent foundation for further studies in medicine and other areas of health care.
For students who choose the Honours in Biochemistry, they have the opportunity to complete a full-year research project under the supervision of a professor from the departments of Chemistry and Biomolecular Sciences, Biology, Physics, or Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology, or under the supervision of an affiliated principle investigator from one of the many research institutes in the National Capital Region. Given the breadth of research expertise within the program, students can conduct research in many areas of modern biomedicine, including biochemistry, microbiology, immunology, chemical biology, molecular biology, cell biology, proteomics, genomics, systems biology and bioinformatics.
Chemical engineering is at the intersection of many disciplines, linking knowledge of basic and applied sciences, economics, and health and safety. Chemical engineering graduates use a series of operations to sustainably process raw natural materials into finished products. They work in any number of industries, and during their careers, they may face a variety of challenges, including optimizing processes, monitoring pollution, converting renewable energy, processing foods and drugs, and manufacturing new materials.
The University of Ottawa French Immersion Stream is designed for Anglophone and Allophone students who wish to pursue part of their university studies in French. Students who have attended high school in a language other than French and have followed a French-as-a-second-language program are eligible.
The University of Ottawa French Immersion Stream offers a unique experience. It gives students the opportunity to pursue part of their university studies in French while receiving individualized support in order to develop competencies in their field and in their second language, French. Graduates from the French Immersion Stream are able to function in both official languages and are able to hold a bilingual job or pursue graduate studies in French.
