Integrated Foundation - Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Business Management

The BA (Hons) Business Management with Foundation Year is designed for students who want to actively engage in business practice as well as develop a strong academic understanding of management. From the outset, the programme emphasises the application of learning through topical case studies, business simulations, real consultancy projects and work placements. After successful completion of the Foundation Year, students can progress onto the general BA (Hons) Business Management degree or choose from a range of specialist pathways. The Business Management courses are accredited by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), enabling students to gain an additional professional qualification alongside their degree, as well as access professional mentoring and CMI member benefits.

This challenging and varied programme explores organisations, their management and the global environments in which they operate. It encourages new ways of thinking while developing a wide range of practical skills that are applied to real-world business and management scenarios through projects, placements and internships. The course prepares graduates for careers in a rapidly changing global business environment, supporting the development of agility, innovation and resilience, alongside essential self-learning and team-working skills.

A strong international perspective is embedded throughout the programme, with opportunities to work alongside students from different countries, both in class and through online joint projects with overseas partner universities. This global exposure helps students understand how cultural differences influence business decision-making and management practices. The curriculum has been recently updated to include key growth areas and contemporary topics such as responsible management, business ethics, business analytics, digital media, innovation and globalisation.

Teaching is delivered through a varied and engaging mix of formal lectures, including guest speakers, tutor-led and student-led seminars, one-to-one and small group tutorials, work experience and consultancy projects, self-directed study, optional placement and internship opportunities, and collaborative projects with overseas students. In the final year, students complete a Business Consultancy Project, developing essential project management and research skills before applying them to solve a real business problem. This capstone project provides valuable practical experience and builds professional confidence.

An optional placement year is available between the second and third years of study, offering the opportunity to apply skills in a real-world environment, gain industry experience, build professional networks and enhance employability. For those who prefer an alternative route, internships can be undertaken during summer breaks, with support provided throughout.
