Overview

Examine the processes and patterns that shape the natural world around us with University of Reading's BSc Geography (Physical) degree. This three-year course will deepen students' understanding of how the physical environment works, responds, and adapts to change. It also offers students the chance to help address issues critical to the shared global future, including: climate change, natural disasters and weather systems.

Students will explore the physical world's diverse landscapes and environments through the study of: hydrology, climatology, hazards, soils and biogeography. Develop technical laboratory skills to help apply their knowledge in areas such as modelling, surveying and measurement, and technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information System) and remote sensing. Students will gain experience in the field, ensuring they have a balance of practical and theoretical skills.

One of the most popular components of the BSc Geography (Physical) are its field classes. Students will have the opportunity to travel throughout the UK and abroad, putting theory into practice and gaining valuable research and practical experience.

A key component of this degree is a year-long professional placement, which occurs between the second and final year. Placements can help enhance students' employability and build their network.
