The program welcomes students from diverse creative backgrounds, such as architecture, fine art, theatre, and graphic design, allowing them to channel prior experience into production design. It develops both familiar skills, including spatial thinking and visual storytelling, and new technical and conceptual tools.

Students gain advanced skills in art direction, set design, and visual storytelling for film, TV, and immersive media. Based in London, a global hub for film, television, games, and immersive media, the program offers access to world-class studios, production companies, and creative networks, as well as inspiration from the city’s architecture, museums, and cultural energy. Collaborative studio work encourages engagement with filmmakers, animators, and designers in a vibrant creative environment.

The course includes hands-on experience in conceptualizing and creating digital models for film and television sets, using handcrafting, digital, and AI-assisted tools to build professional portfolios. One- and two-year modes feature embedded, credit-bearing work experience on real-world industry projects, enhancing employability and professional skills.

The program is delivered in MDX Studios’ state-of-the-art facilities, including a double-height studio for set builds, a Motion Capture studio for industry-level VFX and virtual production, 3D workshops for physical set construction, prop design, model-making, and 3D printing, and digital media workshops for worldbuilding, concept art, drafting, and previsualizing sets using SketchUp, VectorWorks, AutoCAD, and Unreal Engine. The Kit Hub provides professional cameras, sound recording equipment, and VR headsets, with strong industry partnerships with Canon, Sony, and AVID to ensure access to the latest creative technologies.

MA programmes feature one- and two-year options with embedded, credit-bearing work placements on live industry projects.
