Overview
Environmental engineers are in high-demand and the number of jobs is expected to continue growing. Environmental engineers apply scientific principles of biology, chemistry, hydrology, and soil science to design sustainable solutions for environmental problems. They have the skills to complete projects that improve public health, waste disposal, and control water and air pollution in settings ranging from urban industrial facilities to rural wetlands. ECU Environmental Engineering concentration students are prepared for careers as professional engineers in civil and environmental consulting firms, state and federal environmental agencies, and industrial processing and manufacturing companies.
The ECU Environmental Engineering concentration includes topics such as water quality analysis and treatment, air pollution control, stormwater design and management, and surface and groundwater hydrology. The small program size allows for frequent interactions between faculty and students. Field laboratories and projects located on and near campus provide students with an applied, hands-on experience.
