Bachelor of Science - Environmental Geomatics (GZ) (Co-op)

University of Guelph

What you will study

In the Environmental Geomatics program, students will combine physical geography and field research with computer-aided spatial analysis (e.g., geographic information systems; aerial and satellite image analysis) to study the natural and human-induced forces that are shaping the planet.

This program provides opportunities for study of the processes and properties of the biophysical environment and a core foundation in the analytical techniques (i.e. Geographical Information Science and Remote Sensing) used for their interpretation, analysis and presentation.

Students will be equipped to assess and address the impacts of natural hazards on society such as flood-plain mapping and emergency management, human impacts on environment (e.g., water pollution and watershed management); and how natural systems are changing due to climate change (e.g., mapping of invasive species). Graduates of the program will have a unique specialty in the application of spatial technologies to the study and assessment of biophysical and Earth surface processes.

Sample Careers: • Professional geoscientist • Geomatics specialist • Geomorphologist

A principal aim of the Co-op program in Environmental Geomatics is to facilitate the transition of students from academic studies to a professional career by enhancing the integration of theory and practice.
