Overview
Through teaching, research and service, the Department of Biology and Environmental Science seeks to advance understanding of the sciences at all levels, from molecules to ecosystems. Biology education at AUM strives to strengthen core disciplinary knowledge and to foster synergies that arise from the relationships students build with our creative and collaborative faculty. Pre-health science programs are designed to be pre-professional curricula and not degree programs in themselves. This allows students to graduate from AUM with an academic major that can provide alternative possibilities if career plans change. The most common choices of majors have been biology, mathematics and chemistry. AUM pre-health students have routinely been accepted to medical, dental, optometry, physician assistant and other health professions programs nationwide.
