Overview

The University of Essex MSc Research Methods in Psychology develops student's awareness of psychological science in relation to its philosophical and biological contexts, and in relation to research in the natural and social sciences. In addition to this research-focussed training, students also study advanced topics in psychology that will extend their theoretical knowledge. Students explore topics including: methods in cognitive neuroscience, advanced statistical techniques, research management, and interview analysis. If students intend to pursue a career as a research psychologist, or wish to take a research degree, then Essex's MSc Research Methods in Psychology will give them the advanced research training which provides students with an excellent preparation for a PhD, and enhances their chances of obtaining funding.

This department is expanding, and has recently appointed a number of excellent researchers whose expertise increases the diversity and depth of Essex's skills base.

With the skills and knowledge students acquire from studying within Essex's Department of Psychology, students will find themselves in demand from a wide range of employers.

Essex's graduates have been employed in clinical psychology, educational psychology, criminal and forensic psychology.
