What you will study

Contrary to popular belief, the study of English is not simply about books. English is a wide-ranging field of study that uses textual analysis to dig deeper into society and the world around.

At Lakehead University, the flexibility of this English program encourages students to follow their interests within the discipline. They will learn about the historical development of English language literature - from the Medieval to the contemporary period - as well as different theoretical approaches to the study of literary and cultural texts.

This program offer a broad range of courses including: • Poetry • Film • Popular Culture • Creative, Academic, and Professional Writing • Gender Studies • Children’s Literature • Fiction

In Canada, the ability to communicate effectively in French (one of the country’s two official languages) is not only an asset but it can be a requirement for many careers. A written, spoken, and literary understanding of more than one language gives students a unique edge both personally and professionally. It is not necessary for them to be fluent in French prior to enrolment. Classes are designed to facilitate language development for those at all skill levels as long as admission requirements are met.
