To ensure students get the best start to their studies, the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology has invested in careers counselling, academic and welfare support for international students to access when and where it suits them.

Bachelor of Aviation - Pilot Training: In the Bachelor of Aviation (Pilot Training), students will gain the skills to become a commercial pilot while also learning about the aviation industry. Conducted on both the City campus and at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) Flight Training School at Point Cook Airfield, this degree will give students a broad, coherent and detailed body of knowledge and theory related to the global aviation industry, preparing them for a successful career in the skies. They will also build the skills to critically review and analyze all aspects of the aviation industry, and learn how to work both individually and in teams to solve real industry issues. Students will graduate with a vast array of tools and knowledge to communicate to a diverse range of stakeholders, and manage industry-specific projects.

In addition to extensive theory work, this degree includes flight training. This training will assist students to gain a Recreational (RPL), Private (PPL), and Commercial Pilot License (CPL), which enables them to fly commercially within Australia.

Students will learn to fly at the RAAF Williams base at Point Cook, which boasts 4,500 feet of airspace over the airfield. Here, they will benefit from space for unrestricted training manoeuvres, and various types of airspace, terrain and urban development to maximize variety in navigational experience. As the only operator at Point Cook, this minimizes circuit congestion and delays, and enables more take-offs and landings per hour than many other airfields, improving training efficiency.
