College Diploma - Arts and Science - Classical Studies

The Classical Studies program covers a wide variety of approaches to the worlds of Greece and Rome. Exploring history, literature, philosophy, archaeology, mythology, and the arts (including architecture, sculpture and painting) will help students understand these same features in other cultures and times. Studying Ancient Greek and Latin languages is key to appreciating the voices of the Classical past and building a solid foundation for learning other languages. Through this program, students have the opportunity to acquire a sound knowledge of the history, culture, and languages of Greece and Rome. The emphasis is on giving students an idea of the richness and variety of the past, and of the people involved, men and women, slaves and free. In a broader sense, the program is designed to give students an understanding of and sensitivity to different times and different places. In addition, the program is designed to enhance student skills in areas such as research, writing, and critical thinking.
