Overview
An Integrated PhD provides a route into research study for individuals who do not hold a Master’s degree or have limited research training. The programme typically begins with a full-time Master’s-level qualification in the first year, followed by a PhD studied either full-time over three to four years or part-time over six to seven years. A standard PhD option is also available, which can be undertaken full-time or part-time over the same respective durations.
During the first year of the Integrated PhD in Psychology, students develop an understanding of psychological science within its broader philosophical and biological contexts, as well as its connections to research in the natural and social sciences. Alongside research-focused training, students engage with advanced topics in psychology to deepen their theoretical knowledge. This year is designed to provide the advanced research skills necessary for progression to the PhD stage.
In the second year, students transition into the PhD phase, where they undertake supervised research in areas such as cognitive psychology, sensory and cognitive neuroscience, and social psychology. The programme offers a stimulating research environment with access to high-quality facilities, including neuroscience equipment and a participant pool for experimental studies. Students also benefit from supportive supervision and a collaborative academic community, contributing to strong outcomes in the completion of high-quality doctoral theses.
