What you will study

The Marketing degree is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM). Graduates achieving a 2:2 or higher gain exemptions toward CIM Certificate and Diploma modules, supporting accelerated progress toward professional marketing qualifications. The programme develops the skills, confidence, and creativity required to shape organisational marketing strategies and promote customer-led approaches to business opportunities. Students learn how to integrate all elements of the marketing mix and work effectively with both in-house marketing teams and external creative agencies. Practical learning is embedded throughout the course through live marketing projects delivered in partnership with employers, complemented by placements and internships that further enhance professional experience.

The inclusion of a foundation year within the four-year study programme provides an early advantage in both academic and professional development. This introductory year focuses on strengthening skills, building knowledge, and enhancing confidence, supported by guidance from experienced teaching staff before progression to the first stage of the honours degree. The foundation year is particularly beneficial for those pursuing a career change or developing familiarity with new subject areas. The programme is continuous, meaning students automatically progress to subsequent stages upon successful completion of each year without the need for reapplication.

Marketing is a dynamic and fast-paced discipline that plays a crucial role across all sectors, including private, public, and third-sector organisations. Every business relies on marketing to promote its goods and services, whether through internal marketing teams or outsourced creative agencies. Successful marketing activity requires structured planning, effective implementation, and careful performance monitoring to support commercial growth and organisational profitability.

The rapid expansion of digital media has increased the number and complexity of marketing channels, creating demand for more specialised professional roles. Sub-sectors such as content marketing, affiliate marketing, social media management, search engine optimisation, and data analysis now offer growing career opportunities. The programme’s modules have been developed in response to these industry trends to ensure graduates acquire the specialist knowledge and practical skills sought by employers in today’s competitive marketing environment.
