2-Term Undergraduate Foundation Program - Life Sciences - Continue to - Bachelor of Science (Honours) - Dental Therapy

The Undergraduate Foundation Program in Life Science program is designed to prepare international students, who have completed senior secondary education, for entry to a wide range of undergraduate studies at the University of Central Lancashire.

The Foundation portion of this program lasts one academic year (nine months). The year is divided into three terms of seven to eight teaching weeks and one examination week. On average, students will undertake 21 (and up to 25) hours of classroom-based study per week.

There are four academic pathways to choose from and candidates will study the pathway most suited to their chosen progression degree. Academic skills relevant to the specific subject area will be taught to fully prepare them for university study. The pathways are: Business, Economics, Finance and Management, Engineering and Physical Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences and Life Sciences.

Dental therapists play an increasingly important role in the delivery of primary care dentistry. There is a great emphasis on clinical experience and initially the students will be based in our purpose-built Dental School in Preston developing clinical skills and supporting knowledge, as well as an understanding of how the human body works in health and disease and will have the opportunity to work with actors to develop your communication skills. Towards the end of the first year, the students will go to one of the four primary care Dental Education Centres (DECs). The DECs are clinical training centres where they will treat patients, under supervision, and gain first-hand experience within the communities they are most likely to serve after graduation.
