Double Degree - Bachelor of Arts - General Major Humanities & Bachelor of Business Administration - Global Business (Optional Co-op)
University of Lethbridge - Lethbridge
What you will study
Students in a combined degree program work on two complementary university degrees simultaneously. A combined degree is generally a 50-course* program during which students complete the requirements for both degrees at the same time. When the student graduates, they will be awarded two bachelor's degrees, one for each area of study. The bonus is that you complete a combined degree program in less time than it would take to complete both degrees individually. Bachelor of Business Administration - Global Business Business is now recognized as a global practice, even when products and services remain within a local market. Global events and competition influence nearly all companies and industry sectors. Therefore, it is important to understand the global environment, as organizations operate in increasingly complex and diverse contexts where international factors play a significant role. Global Business refers to the management of business, not-for-profit, governmental, or other entities’ operations across national borders. Professionals in Global Business are knowledgeable about the cultures, business practices, and the economic and political environments of the countries in which multinational firms and other organizations operate. They possess the skills necessary to develop effective management strategies within today’s globally complex and competitive landscape. A Global Business major includes courses in supply chain management, global finance, innovation in emerging markets, and the industrial location of multinational operations. It also covers areas such as cross-cultural management, global leadership, crisis management, and regional aspects of Global Business. Students draw from disciplines such as history, geography, political science, psychology, economics, and sociology, enabling them to strengthen the skills required to address the challenges of conducting business within organizations that face international pressures or operate globally. Graduates of Global Business programs work in a wide range of environments, both internationally and domestically. They find employment in the private sector, government, post-secondary education, and as entrepreneurs. Alumni hold positions in the diplomatic corps, government, law, academia, international offices at colleges and universities, international development agencies, the oil and gas industry, and as small business owners. Students are drawn to Global Business because of the breadth of training it offers, their strong interest in global management issues, and their desire to experience the world while gaining valuable management expertise.
Bachelor of Arts - General Major Humanities A general major in the humanities, unlike a single discipline major, allows students to customize their course selection to their interests and abilities. Where students compromise depth of focus in one area, they gain breadth of knowledge in a few key areas, thus increasing their flexibility. This multidisciplinary approach provides access to the "big picture" or the wider context of any subject area. Conversely, the courses students choose can enhance their focus and provide a cross-discipline perspective on one particular theme.
Students choosing a general major in the humanities select three disciplinary streams from the following: • One of art, dramatic arts, or music • English • One of French, Japanese, or Spanish classical languages (Greek, Hebrew, and Latin) • history • linguistics • Indigenous studies • philosophy • religious studies
