Master of Arts (Honours) - Scandinavian Studies and English Literature (RQ63)

The University of Edinburgh

What you will study

For centuries, the English-speaking and Scandinavian cultures have exerted a significant global influence on literature and drama. The joint honors program aims to foster the development of critical, analytic, linguistic, and creative skills by engaging with a wide range of texts and employing various reading approaches.

The requirement of proficiency in a Scandinavian language is not currently necessary, as introductory courses are available. Throughout the four-year program, the students will acquire advanced reading, writing, and speaking abilities in either Danish, Norwegian, or Swedish.

The students will specialize in the modern language of Denmark, Norway, or Sweden. However, regardless of their choice, they will also gain a comprehensive understanding of the other two languages.

In the field of English Literature, the students will delve into the cultural contexts of writing in English from the late Middle Ages to the present.

As the program progresses, the students will have the opportunity to select courses based on their personal interests, enabling them to develop an in-depth knowledge of specific literary topics, periods, or genres.
