What you will study
This Music Technology and Production (including foundation year) BSc (Hons) degree is a four-year course with a built-in foundation year.
The course is a great fit for students who want to study Music Technology and Production at undergraduate level, but don’t yet meet the entry requirements for the traditional three-year course.
London Met students develop their skills by working towards a range of creative and practical projects, building a portfolio of music and audio work in a broad range of fields, guided by teaching staff with a wealth of music industry experience.
By the end of their studies, students are equipped with the skills, critical thinking and understanding required to produce work to the highest professional standards.
In the foundation year students will learn key principles of creative practice in a range of fields, developing skills and understanding of the wider contexts of music, audio and its role in the creative industries.
Later in the degree course, students will focus on music and audio production projects, developing songs, and skills in audio engineering.
The foundation year will give students the chance to also explore what their specific practice might be, with the option of specialising after this initial year. The integrated foundation year on this four-year course is shared with other foundation degrees, allowing students to study alongside other students who are interested in a variety of other specialisms and disciplines within the School of Computing and Digital Media.
Throughout the foundation year students will develop a music technology portfolio, displaying the key proficiencies they have learned through hands-on, practice-based exercises, they’ll explore the fundamental aspects of computer-based music production. The working practices and techniques students will develop include audio editing and mixing in the Music IT labs using Apple iMacs, MIDI keyboards and a range of professional standard software.
The teaching team is built around industry practitioners, with established careers in the music and creative industries and affiliation with industry bodies including the Music Producers Guild and Audio Engineering Society. Through understanding the working environment, and methods, the team are able to equip students with insight and understanding of the professional music industries. The expertise of the team range from studio-based music production, electronic music, music for film and television, sound design, electronic instrument design as well as research, business practices including music publishing, record labels and management.
An International Bright Futures Scholarship in the amount of £3,000 will automatically be applied to eligible students with overseas fee status starting a degree with London Met in the 2024/25 academic year. This scholarship includes a tuition fee reduction for the duration of students' studies and is applicable to both undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
Tuition Deposit is £4,000 for all students excluding those from Punjab and Haryana for whom the deposit amount will remain at 50%
