Firefighter, Pre-Service Education and Training (FFP) is a comprehensive, usually one-year college program is designed to prepare individuals for a firefighting career before being hired by a department. It combines theoretical knowledge with practical, hands-on training to meet NFPA standards. This 12-month certificate program prepares student for a career as a firefighter or rescue specialist, covering fire ground operations, fire suppression, emergency medical responder (EMR), and fire investigation. They'll gain hands-on experience in fire apparatus operation, technical rescue, and hazardous materials. Accredited by the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office (OFM), this program offers National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) qualifications and equips them with the knowledge and skills for the fire service field. Skills developed include: • Fire suppression and fireground operations
• Inspection and maintenance of firefighting equipment
• Analysis of fire development and suppression concepts
• Fire and life safety inspections
• Technical rescue support and vehicle extrication
• Hazardous materials operations and decontamination procedures
