Master of Engineering - Industrial Ecology

In the Industrial Ecology program, UVic emphasize research-intensive, sustainability-focused and interdisciplinary work.

Students will graduate with a deeper understanding of the complexities of sustainable development, including the influences of economic, political and regulatory factors. In their final term, students will undertake a graduate project in industrial ecology.

This is a project-based program; there is no thesis.

Outcomes Graduates with an MEng in Industrial Ecology will be able to:

• assemble and compute energy and material flows in an industrial society over a range of scales • frame, develop and apply systems approaches for determining the environmental and economic impacts of infrastructure • plan and analyze systems for material reuse and recycling • demonstrate understanding of the scientific basis of environmental impacts of human activities • explain how the methods and tools of industrial ecology can be applied in business, economic and public policy contexts
