Individuals interested in a career in the healthcare field may consider the Pre-Health Sciences Pathway certificate program. The program instills an appreciation of the Canadian healthcare system, interprofessional roles, and the academic requirements of healthcare disciplines. The first semester focuses on foundational courses. The second semester continues to build on foundational health courses and allows students to choose courses that best suit their areas of interest. In this program, students will:
• learn the skills, attitudes, and attributes expected of healthcare practitioners • explore various healthcare professions • have the opportunity to upgrade courses to gain admission to health programs • improve English, math, chemistry, and anatomy skills • learn specific health courses, including medical terminology, infection control, and healthcare fundamentals.
The program also offers optional courses to help with entry into other health programs, including physics and psychology. Students can also take a phlebotomy course, allowing them to find work even if they do not continue with a health program. Graduates of the Pre-Health Sciences Pathways certificate program will be prepared to enter Health and Public Safety programs through non-academic admission requirements and entrance testing processes.
