Bachelor of Laws - Law with Human Rights (Including Year Abroad) (MM21)

University of Essex - Colchester Campus

What you will study

The LLB Law and Human Rights develops students' critical awareness of the nature of law within its social, political, sociological, philosophical, economic and historical contexts. At Essex they are actively engaged in debates about the meaning of justice in the UK and beyond. Their Human Rights Centre is a recognized international leader. Through their work with the United Nations, governments, human rights organizations and corporations all over the world, they bring a global outlook to their teaching.

As law and human rights students, not only will they learn legal rules, but they will also consider the function of law in society, the philosophy of law, policy issues and law reform. Students study topics including:

• Global distributive justice and human rights • Current issues in UK human rights law • The protection of human rights in the UK • Freedom of thought and expression • European human rights law

At Essex they specialize in business law, public law, criminal justice, health law, law and technology, socio-legal studies and human rights law.

They are ranked 76th in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2020 and they are top 20 in the UK for research excellence (REF 2014, mainstream universities, THE 2014).

Their law course will develop students' intellectual and critical faculties, encourage them to think independently and teach them to present rational, coherent and accurate arguments orally and in writing. It will provide students with an excellent foundation for any career.
