Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Business Management and Finance (Placement Year)
University of Derby - Derby
What you will study
The BA (Hons) Business Management and Finance with Placement Year combines strong financial expertise with core business management skills to prepare graduates for impactful roles across a wide range of organisations. The programme enhances professional credibility through the opportunity to gain a respected Chartered Management Institute (CMI) qualification alongside the degree, while also offering potential exemptions from Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) professional qualifications. A professional mentoring scheme provides access to CMI mentors throughout the programme, supporting academic and professional development.
The course develops specialist capabilities in financial analysis, forecasting and performance management, enabling graduates to assess organisational financial health, manage and coordinate financial resources effectively, and understand corporate governance. Learning is highly applied, with work-related activities including live projects, case studies and business simulations that translate theory into practice. An optional placement year between the second and third years further strengthens employability by providing valuable industry experience.
International perspectives enrich the learning experience through a diverse global student community and delivery across educational partners in Europe and Asia. Opportunities include international case studies, joint projects, online guest lectures and inter-country debates, with optional overseas study experiences such as an exchange week in Barcelona or additional international visits, including study trips to cities such as Copenhagen.
