Overview
The Ness School of Management and Economics plays a vital role in the life of the university and the state through its commitment to quality teaching, research, and outreach. The Bachelor of Science - Consumer Affairs program has different specializations to choose from: Consumer Services Management Students majoring in consumer affairs who pursue the consumer services management specialization are usually interested in marketing, communication, human development, planning principles and working with individuals to develop personal management skills. The consumer services management specialization focuses on the application of resource management concepts for families of various structures, consumer rights and responsibilities, consumer behavior in decision-making, the impact of the marketplace on problem-solving, and implementation strategies for working with a wide range of audiences. Graduates are prepared to engage in a variety of careers such as: management of non-profit organizations, management of retail businesses, Extension, human resources, marketing and sales. Family Financial Management Students majoring in consumer affairs who pursue the family financial management specialization are usually interested in financial markets, financial decision-making and working with individuals to develop personal financial plans. The family financial management specialization focuses on principles and practice of credit and debt management, insurance planning, investment strategies, income tax planning, retirement preparation and estate planning. Graduates are prepared to engage in a variety of careers such as: financial services, financial planning, and credit/financial counseling and financial coaching.
