College of the North Atlantic (CNA) - Prince Philip Drive
This red seal program offers training in joining and severing metals in beams, girders, vessels, piping and other metal components that make metal parts used in construction and manufacturing plants, and weld parts, tools, machines and equipment.
Some of the duties include:
• Develop patterns in given layouts, blueprints and work orders • Clean and check for defects and shape component parts • Examine blueprints and work orders • Perform welding of various metals
Outcomes • Demonstrate safe work practices and personal protection. • Interpret drawings and develop layout patterns for projects. • Use and maintain tools and equipment. • Follow required codes, specifications and standards. • Employ various welding methods using SMAW, GMAW, FCAW and GTAW
Graduates may find employment in the following areas: • Machine shops • Fabrication plants • Garages • Production plants • Shipyard • Oil and Gas
