Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) - Mechanical Engineering (Industrial Year) (H30A)

Do student want to push the boundaries of engineering to solve complex problems and improve the sustainability and efficiency of the world we live in? This course will give them opportunity to combine their initiative, numeracy skills and detailed subject knowledge, leading to careers that really make a difference to the world we live in.

Mechanical engineers have key and pivotal roles throughout all aspects of our lives – from the personal and local level right up to the global level and even into space. We are involved in the development of new products, new processes, new technologies, new techniques – as well as innovative application of the existing state of the art. If they think about any of the exciting advances they’ve seen in robotics, power generation and energy storage, space exploration and applications, medical diagnostics and treatment, disability support, future transport (automotive, aerospace, personal) and many more sectors, they can be sure mechanical engineers were part of the teams that delivered them.

As well as taught sessions, they’ll have access excellent manufacturing research facilities, including robotics and 3D printing techniques. They will also apply their knowledge in individual and group project settings.

Mechanical and manufacturing engineering share a common program for the first two years, where they will learn the fundamentals of engineering science and design. In the third year they will specialize in mechanical engineering options.

This is a four-year course and year three is a year placement in industry. This degree course is fully accredited.

Mechanical engineering is available as a BEng or a MEng course. The MEng is a masters degree and provides the preferred route to achieving Chartered Engineer status. The first two academic years structures are the same for both BEng and MEng and if they choose to study the BEng option they may be able to transfer to the MEng course at the end of the second year if their performance meets the criteria.
