Overview

Master of Science - Events Management course is designed for current and aspiring events coordinators and planners who wish to develop a robust understanding and appreciation of their chosen industry or to establish careers within it. It particularly suits individuals seeking to advance into senior roles or cultivate specialised expertise in events planning and delivery. Accordingly, the course adopts a fundamentally practical and hands-on approach to nurturing students’ capability for, and progression within, the field of Events Management.

The programme challenges and stimulates the creative and business ambitions of its students by drawing upon the expertise of industry practitioners and the academic insight of professionals with extensive research and teaching experience in the discipline. It ensures that students discover the breadth of opportunities within the events industry—opportunities available to those who explore its complexities with curiosity and rigour, and to those passionate about driving innovation and quality within both domestic and international contexts.

Leveraging Ravensbourne’s strong foothold in the creative industries, together with its teaching expertise and Silver rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), the course supports students’ academic and intellectual growth through a variety of active cross-disciplinary learning opportunities.

These opportunities emulate the multidisciplinary environments that contemporary event planners and designers encounter across a range of sectors—including conferences and meetings, seminars, product launches, weddings, corporate and themed events, exhibitions, festivals, community and charity initiatives, and trade shows—both in the UK and internationally. Students will also benefit from Ravensbourne’s diverse portfolio of extracurricular professional development activities such as Rave Lates, Rave Braves, and Kickstart.

With a strong awareness of emerging trends in design and digital tools, and an appreciation of events as platforms for entertainment, aesthetics, experience, knowledge exchange, personal and professional development, and social connection, the course encourages students to apply their creativity and insight within ethical and sustainability-oriented contexts. These, in turn, are redefined as spaces of authentic business practice and authentic self-expression.

Through a combination of critical, shared, and course-specific modules in areas such as strategy, communications, operations, research, experience and concept design, digital tools, ethics, sustainability, and hospitality—as well as through an integrally unique Leadership Competency Framework—students develop the creative professionalism, leadership proficiency, subject expertise, and practical experience required to interrogate and reshape established business models that prioritise profit over social responsibility.
