What you will study
Program Description Financial markets are becoming ever more innovative and dynamic, with the growth of financial technology, or Fintech, helping to accelerate that change. Studying this course should help prepare students for a career in Fintech, or provide them with the knowledge needed to operate effectively in other financial sectors being disrupted by technology. With a focus on the practical application of theory, this course seeks to develop the skills needed by the modern finance graduate, offering a grounding in financial theories coupled with developing the digital fluency needed to apply them to the rapidly changing finance sector. So, alongside developing and expanding students' knowledge in key theories such as asset pricing or corporate governance, the course also focuses on financial technology, big data analytics, and the management of risk in digital environments.
During the course, students will have the opportunity to get hands-on training in programming using Python and/or R, big data analytics and data mining, as well as having access to Coventry Business School’s Trading Floor (subject to availability), which utilises market leading databases such as Thomson Reuters Eikon, Bloomberg and Fitch Connect. Students will also be taught by academics with industry experience, alongside those with research expertise in the world of finance, and have the opportunity to extend thei course with professional experience.
Professional experience option This master's programme provides students with the additional option to apply for a professional experience opportunity during their first semester at Coventry. The professional experience opportunity is designed to further develop students' skills and knowledge with the aim of maximising their employability prospects.
Please note that the optional professional experience modules incur an additional tuition fee. Professional experience opportunities are not guaranteed, and while students will be responsible for sourcing any opportunity, they will have the support of Coventry's Talent Team in doing so. This is subject to competitive application, availability, meeting any applicable visa requirements and additional costs may apply.
