International Stage One in Engineering - Transfer to Bachelor of Engineering - Civil Engineering

The International Stage One (IS1) represents the first year of a four-year undergraduate degree which caters specifically for the needs of international students. It provides an opportunity for students to take part in a bespoke programme which maps against the standard first year offered at Edinburgh Napier University (ENU). They will be able to study in the supportive environment of an international college situated on an ENU campus and follow a Learning, Teaching and Assessment Approach designed to meet their learning needs while still being immersed in a university environment, accessing University facilities and resources and following university undergraduate regulations. Successful completion of the IS1 enables them to join the second year of their undergraduate studies at Edinburgh Napier University.

During students' studies on International Stage One (IS1) they will enhance their English language capabilities, develop academic study skills appropriate to the United Kingdom Higher Education environment and acclimate to living and studying in another country and cultural context very different from their own. Alongside language and study skills tuition, those working on the International Stage One are also able to study content modules within a chosen field of study and which are closely related to modules delivered in Edinburgh Napier University (ENU)’s standard year one. They are therefore able to join their second year studies at Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) Level 8 alongside continuing students with increased confidence in both their language and study skills and subject knowledge.

The Bachelor of Engineering Civil Engineering course will give students an advanced introduction to each of these areas allowing them to decide on their specialism. Once specialised, they are not limited to their chosen field, but also have an understanding of how these other specialisms fit into the wider context.
