What you will study

The MSc Communication and Public Relations programme is designed for individuals seeking to build a career in the dynamic and fast-paced world of media and communications. It equips students with the knowledge, practical skills and confidence needed to succeed in a global communications environment. The programme focuses on the application of theory to practice, enabling students to understand how communication, public relations, advertising and marketing influence organisations, audiences and society.

Students will critically examine the role of public relations and media in shaping public perception, alongside exploring key debates about their influence on how people understand the world. The programme also considers the impact of emerging digital technologies and how they are transforming the communications landscape.

Learning is delivered through a combination of practical projects, case studies, live commercial briefs and Communication Skills Training (CST) labs, helping students to develop industry-relevant expertise. Core areas of study include marketing, advertising, strategic, political and digital public relations, media and community relations, branding, crisis management, social and digital media, consumer behaviour, event management, product, pricing and distribution strategy, and leadership and management.

In addition, the programme emphasises the ethical, cultural and social responsibilities of communication professionals. This ensures that graduates are well prepared to navigate the complexities of the industry and contribute effectively in a range of communication and public relations roles.
